While ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter was short-lived, it developed a cult following among Disney fans. Stitch's Great Escape! is also based on the 2002 Disney animated film Lilo & Stitch. The attraction closed permanently on October 12, 2003, and was replaced by Stitch's Great Escape!, an attraction that uses much of the same technology and set pieces.
